How One Girl Overcame Her First Heartbreak Through Closure and Self-Discovery

Finding Myself After a Breakup

Going through a breakup can really hurt, but it’s possible to come out the other side feeling stronger than before. This is one girl’s story of how she handled losing her first love and ultimately moved forward in a healthy way.

The Beginning

I fell head over heels for a guy I met in my freshman year of college. We clicked right away and things moved pretty quick between us. Those first few months, I felt like the luckiest girl in the world just to be with him.

Things Start to Change

As our first year went on though, I noticed him becoming more distant. He didn’t seem as interested in spending time together or talking like he used to. I tried my best to fix things, but nothing I did seemed to work.

It’s Over

In the end, we decided to call it quits. Man, was I a wreck when that happened! I felt totally lost and like I didn’t know who I was anymore without him. Part of me wanted to just forget about it, but deep down I still wasn’t over him.

Burying the Past

To really move on, I knew I needed to close that chapter of my life for good. I dug out all the pictures, gifts, and memories we had together. Then I brought them to a quiet spot in the woods behind my dorm. I buried it all in a hole in the ground as a symbolic way to let go of him.

Finding Myself Again

Something about that simple act of burying our past helped me start to feel better. Don’t get me wrong, it still hurt some. But I also felt ready to pick up the pieces and focus on myself from that point on. I started getting involved in new clubs and classes, which slowly but surely helped me discover who I was meant to be without him.

Breakups will always sting, but with time and self-reflection, you can heal. For me, burying that box in the dirt was the closure I needed to honor what we had while embracing the next chapter of my life.
